Jill Long Thompson, the Democratic candidate for governor, made an appearance in Linton on Thursday.

As a part of her campaign tour, Long Thompson along with running mate Dennie Oxley stopped at The Grill to rally support for the Nov. 4 election.

Oxley -- who spoke first-- revved the local eatery up with some facts prior to introducing Long Thompson to the crowd.

"The first and foremost issue with everyone is the economy. Bush/Daniels economics is crippling the state of Indiana. ... It's time that we change and it's time that we ditch Mitch," Oxley said.

Indiana has lost 64,000 jobs this past year, he said. The unemployment rate is at one of the highest levels in 21 years and home foreclosures are some of the worst in the country.

"Hoosiers are working for less and spending more for the necessities of life," Oxley added.

A Long Thomspon/Oxley administration would work on re-growing the economy from day one, he added.

Long Thompson then addressed the crowd by announcing that her mission in running for governor has changed since watching Sen. Barack Obama inspire others.

"I feel like my mission is now to be a partner in change with the next president of the United States of America, Sen. Barack Obama," she said.

Reforming the tax structure, lowering health costs, increasing the graduation rate and reforming No Child Left Behind are all on the agenda of a Long Thomspon/Oxley administration, she noted.

"We know we can rebuild the economy," she added.

Long Thompson will face Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels in the Nov. 4 election.
